The Economic History of Argentina and the Work of Javier Milei
This article will focus on the economic history of Argentina and the life and plans for governance of Javier Milei.
Argentina’s Short Economic History
The country “made of silver”, which is how “Argentina” translates in Italian, is located in South America and borders Uruguay, Brasil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Chile.
Although its name was first found in 1536 on a Venetian map, the borders of the country weren’t always the same.
Initially, Argentina was home to diverse indigenous cultures before European colonization, ranging from nomadic hunters like the Selk’nam and Tehuelche to farmers with pottery, such as the Guaraní and Diaguita. The northwest saw Inca influence by the late 15th century.
Amerigo Vespucci, who initially worked in Spain by helping to outfit Columbus’s voyages, later, became a navigator and explorer himself, and under Portuguese sponsorship, he reached the Río de la Plata region in 1506. This marks the earliest European exploration of the area.
