Early Life, Family, and First Entrepreneurial Moves
Elon Reeve Musk was born in 1971 in South Africa’s administrative capital, Pretoria.
His father’s ancestors were some of the first of Dutch descent who migrated to South Africa, and his mother’s ancestors came from Switzerland through Canada.
His father, Errol Musk, was an electrical and mechanical engineer and property developer who later got involved in the emerald business by having ownership in a Zambian emerald mine. His mother, Maye Musk, is a model and dietitian.
His brother’s name is Kimbal Musk, and his sister’s is Tosca Musk.
